Our history

The Institute Of Music & Technology was established in 1989 to address the training requirements of the recording industry and its professional audio branches.

We started in premises in Forest Hill, South London and when we out-grew them, moved to our current headquarters in Deptford.

Our facilities, approach and ethos have developed from the many talented technologist and educationalists who have contributed to our courses and qualifications over the years. We are fiercely proud of our lecturers, all of whom are professionals in the music and multimedia industries and share our absolute commitment to helping our student overcome the barriers they face in achieving their career goals.

Mission statement

We are committed to the development and implementation of the very highest quality qualifications, coursework and teaching methodologies in the vocational training, mentoring, and career guidance of people seeking to start careers in the multimedia and music industries and related businesses.

We are particularly committed to offering educational access to individuals denied educational opportunity through traditional routes and have a long and successful record of helping the long term unemployed.

We firmly believe that regardless of race, religion, sex, cultural origin and previous knowledge and ability, anyone who has the commitment to pursue a career in the music and multimedia industries should be given the opportunity to access the kind of high quality training and mentoring that we seek to provide.
