Work placements - overviewTaking on a work placement student

Which students attend work placements?

We encourage all our students to attend work placements. Some students are required by their funding contracts to do so but we believe that it is an essential component of all training that students get real world experience whilst on their training programmes.

How often do students attend?

In general, students will attend between 1 and 3 days a week. This is usually decided in partnership with the employer, student and us. Most students attend for a minimum of 5 hours a day for 2 days a week but this is flexible and we are ready to adapt to the needs of the employer.

We only ask that employers ensure students are free to attend their training days (usually 2 a week).

How long does a placement last?

There is no fixed duration but we seek to have a student attend every week whilst they are on programme. Many of our programmes are 13 weeks long so we might expect a student to start attending as soon as a placement is arranged. This might happen before the students starts or within the first 2-3 weeks.

Many students continue attending their placements after their training has finished.
